Rust College Women’s Tennis Ends Season with Playoff Win and Bold Progress
In their opening playoff match, Rust College blanked Northern New Mexico 4‑0, marking the program's first postseason win in recent school history. This milestone came on the heels of steady improvement throughout the year, even as the team competed with just three active players.
Standout and team MVP Emeline Honfoga delivered several memorable performances. At the Red River Athletic Conference tennis championship, Honfoga faced Division I opponents—including the No. 1 player from LSU Alexandria—and held her own in an unfinished match that reached 3‑3. "That match showed she has the fire, tenacity, and skill to compete at any level," Coach Green said. "Emeline's competitiveness has set the bar for this program."
Coach Green added, "Working with this group—even with a limited roster—has been incredibly rewarding. Their resilience and willingness to fight in every match have laid a foundation for future success."
Looking ahead, Rust College is actively recruiting a deeper pool of talent and plans to transition from independent status into a conference for the 2025–26 season. Joining a league will provide more structured scheduling and elevate the level of competition.
