ELSU Defeats South State in Four Sets with Strong Block and Serve Game

On August 26, 2020, the South State volleyball team faced off against the East Lake State University team at Veterans Arena. The game ended with a 3-1 victory for East Lake State University, with set scores of 25-13, 23-25, 25-16, and 25-19. South State's offensive efforts were led by Marissa Gollnick, who had a remarkable 15 kills with only 4 errors out of 20 attempts, resulting in a .550 kill percentage. Gabrielle Gilbertson and Maria Bruner also performed well, with 12 and 10 kills respectively. However, the team struggled in the first and third sets, with attack percentages of .143 and .176, leading to East Lake State's two set victories.
In terms of serving, South State scored 10 aces with only 6 errors, led by Adekite Oladipupo's 4 aces. However, the team struggled with their serve receive, committing 18 errors, which ultimately affected their ability to mount a consistent offense.
