Rust College Men’s Tennis Concludes Season with Historic Rivalry Wins and Significant Growth

The season culminated in a trip to the national championship playoffs in San Antonio, Texas, where Rust College faced Hope International in the first round. Despite a 0‑4 result, the Bearcats gained invaluable high‑pressure match experience on the championship stage.

For the first time in program history, Rust College defeated archrival LeMoyne‑Owen College twice in a single season, earning convincing wins of 6‑1 and 5‑2. Rust also dominated Mississippi University for Women with back‑to‑back 6‑1 victories, showcasing the team's growing depth and consistency.

Team captain Auguste Zachary praised the squad's progress: "Our collective mindset shifted this year—we competed every point, and those rivalry wins showed what we're capable of." Senior Sky Glasgow earned recognition as the team's Most Improved Player, thanks to newfound consistency and tactical savvy, highlighted by a nerve‑steady tiebreak win against Mississippi University for Women.  "Year one under Coach Green has been about building confidence and competing every match," Zachary added. "We've taken big steps forward, and beating LeMoyne‑Owen twice will resonate in this program for years to come." Coach Venecca Green commented, "Our players embraced a new system and showed remarkable growth. These victories and our playoff berth are just the beginning."

Rust College men's tennis is actively recruiting several high‑caliber prospects and plans to join an intercollegiate conference in the 2025–26 season, transitioning from independent status. These strategic moves aim to enhance scheduling, regional competition, and postseason opportunities.
