Rust College Baseball’s Jalik Demar and Shamaar Stapleton Named to All-HBCUAC Second Team
Jalik Demar (photo to the left), a third baseman from Columbus, Georgia, wrapped up his fourth season with the Bearcats by turning in career-best numbers in nearly every offensive category. Demar recorded 36 runs (up from 24), 44 hits (up from 35), and more than doubled his home run total from the last two seasons combined. He also posted a career-high in RBIs, decreased his strikeouts by over 50%, and tallied 13 stolen bases. His overall offensive performance saw significant gains with a batting average improvement from .276 to .386, on-base percentage from .361 to .500, and slugging percentage from .409 to .544.
Shamaar Stapleton (photo to right), an outfielder from Olive Branch, Mississippi, made an immediate impact in his first season with the program. He recorded 40 hits, 42 runs, and 44 RBIs, while leading the team with 8 home runs. Stapleton also added 11 stolen bases and posted a team-high slugging percentage of .748. His stellar hitting included a .374 batting average and a .511 on-base percentage.
"These two athletes brought consistency, energy, and firepower all season long," said head coach John Bates. "Jalik's growth and Shamaar's immediate impact speak volumes about the future of Bearcat Baseball."
