Rust College Announces Addition of Mychala Linzy as Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach
Linzy joins the Bearcats from Southern Arkansas University, where she served as a Graduate Assistant Coach and assisted in player development, with a particular emphasis on the guard position. During her tenure, she contributed to the program's advancement to the Great American Conference Tournament.
Prior to beginning her coaching career, Linzy distinguished herself as a student-athlete at the collegiate level. She was a two-year starter at Southern Arkansas University, where she set the program's single-season record for three-point field goals made and helped lead the team to a Great American Conference Tournament appearance. Linzy also competed for one season at McNeese State University, serving as the starting point guard and assisting the Cowgirls to a berth in the Southland Conference Tournament.
Her collegiate career began at Pearl River Community College, where she was a two-year starter and the team's leading scorer in both seasons. Linzy earned MACJC Region 23 All-Tournament Team honors as a freshman and was named to the MACJC Region 23 All-Conference Team as a sophomore.
A native of Clinton, Mississippi, Linzy was a three-year starter at Clinton High School, where she guided her team to consecutive state playoff appearances while earning multiple "Player of the Game" recognitions.
Linzy earned an Associate of Arts degree from Pearl River Community College, a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management (Coaching) from Southern Arkansas University, and a Master of Science in Kinesiology (Coaching) from Southern Arkansas University.
"Coach Linzy brings a strong background as both a player and coach, and we are confident she will make an immediate impact on our women's basketball program," said Rust College Director of Athletics Jeremy Patterson. "Her experience at multiple levels of competition and her dedication to player development align with the values and vision of Bearcat Athletics."
Head Women's Basketball Coach Jaleesa Sams echoed those sentiments, adding: "We are excited to welcome Coach Linzy to our staff. Her passion for the game, commitment to student-athlete growth, and proven ability to develop players will be instrumental as we continue to build a competitive program here at Rust College."
