Bio

Barry Wellington was named the head coach as Rust College in 2025. Prior to arriving at Rust, Wellington helped Arizona Christian to a 30-5 record and Final Four appearance. He also helped develop a 3rd team All-American, Two All-Conference selections, a Defensive Player of The Year and held the Defensive Coordinator duties for Arizona Christian University. Coach Wellington served as an assistant coach at former GSAC rival Menlo College for a season where he helped develop the Player of The Year and Freshman of The Year.  During his coaching career, he has been on the staff of two NCAA Division II programs- Lane College and Christian Brothers University, NAIA powerhouse the University of Cumberlands, and two-year Lamar State College Port-Arthur.

As a player, he was an All-American at Mountain State University. He started his collegiate career at Mineral Area College and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.  As a prep player, Wellington was a two-time Gatorade Player of the Year while competing at Treadwell High School in Memphis, Tennessee.

Educationally, Wellington graduated from Lamar University in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in applied arts and sciences.

When not on the hardwood, Coach Wellington enjoys going to sporting events, bowling and playing mini golf.
