Scotty Mason brings over 20 years of basketball training and coaching experience to Rust College as the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach. A highly accomplished trainer and coach, Mason specializes in all fundamental areas of basketball—shooting, passing, defense, ball handling, rebounding, conditioning, and coordination—while also focusing on the mental aspects of the game such as discipline, confidence, and preparation. His training approach also incorporates advanced methods including plyometrics and skill-specific conditioning to help athletes reach peak performance.

Coach Mason began his professional career as a Player Development Coach with the Memphis Grizzlies (2007–2009), where he worked closely with NBA athletes to sharpen their skills and physical readiness. He went on to serve as an Assistant Coach and Player Development Specialist at Memphis East High School (2016–2017), contributing to the growth of one of the top prep programs in the region.

In 2021, Mason became the Director of Player Development at Fort Erie International Academy in Canada (2021–2022), where he designed comprehensive training programs to enhance athlete performance. His career then expanded internationally as he joined the Zhejiang Golden Bulls of the Chinese Basketball Association as a Player Development Coach (2022). Most recently, he served as Assistant Coach and Player Development Coordinator at Edward Waters College (2022–2023), where he continued to develop and mentor collegiate student-athletes.

With a wealth of experience at the high school, collegiate, and professional levels, Coach Mason is committed to advancing the Rust College men’s basketball program and preparing student-athletes for success both on and off the court.
