Shorthanded Women's Basketball overmatched against Rust

HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. - Playing with only seven players, the Wiley University women's basketball team was unable to match the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference leader Rust College in a 71-30 loss Thursday at the W.A. McMillan Center.

The Lady Wildcats (11-11, 6-8 GCAC) were without five players, including three starters. They lose their fourth consecutive game.

Wiley was outshot 38.2 to 23.4 percent. It was outrebounded 55-36 and struggled to possess the ball, turning it over 29 times while only forcing 15. The Lady Wildcats never led and trailed 18-8 after the first quarter.

Alayia Francis hit a 3-pointer and Cailan Hale made a jumper to trim the margin to single digits but the Lady Bearcats extended their advantage to 16 at halftime.

Jay'lann Myles led the team with seven points and seven rebounds. Brianna Garrett followed with six points, three rebounds and two steals. Kiersten Harris and Francis each scored five points.

The Lady Wildcats will head to Tougaloo College on Saturday. The Lady Bulldogs fell to Philander Smith University 65-59 on Thursday.
