Eutectics start first full season with a win!

HOLLY SPRINGS, MS - No better way to start your first-ever varsity season than to open it with a win! After a full exhibition season all last year, the UHSP Eutectics opened their first countable season with a 7-4 win over Rust College. Michael Morales went 3-for-4 and drove in five and Barrett Lohman went the first four innings to pick up the win.

The Bearcats struck first for a run in the first against Lohman, but the Eutectics answered right back hanging three on the board in the second inning. Rust would tie it with a pair in the home half of the second and took a 4-3 lead with another in the bottom of the third. Lohman settled down after that and eventually gave way to freshman Braden Thomas who finished it off pitching a scoreless final three innings.

The Eutectics chased Bearcats starter Craig Randolph in the fifth scoring the go-ahead run off him as Randolph left with one out in the fifth. Xavier Campbell came on in relief and yielded two more runs in the sixth as he went two-and-two-thirds innings in relief.

Lohman allowed four runs, three earned on six hits while fanning six in the win. Thomas struck out three in his three innings of work allowing only one hit. Randolph gave five runs, four earned on seven hits with a walk and a strikeout taking the loss for the Cats while Campbell allowed a pair of earned runs over three hits, striking out two and walking one in his outing.

UHSP (1-0) stays south for two more as they play Arkansas Baptist at 11:00a on Saturday and then face Rust in a rematch on Sunday at 12:00p.
