JACKSON, Miss. - The Wiley University baseball team took the lead in the third inning and didn't give it up as it advanced in Loser's Bracket of the 2024 Hope Credit Union Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Baseball Championship with a 7-4 victory over Tougaloo College on Friday at Hank Aaron Sports Academy.

The Wildcats (26-18) will face No. 3 seed Dillard University at Noon on Saturday. The Bleu Devils eliminated the No. 4 seed Southern University at New Orleans with a 12-6 victory.

Ryan Ready went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs. Ivan Del Villar hit his 12th home run of the season over the center field wall which was over 400-feet from home plate. Jacob Perez hit a double, scored two runs and drove in two runs. Eddie Garza doubled, scored a run and drove in a run. Brendan Mendoza went 2-for-4. Kai Woodard doubled and scored a run.

Isaac Burciaga pitched the entire game and picked up his fifth win. He allowed four runs on 10 hits and struck out four. He threw his second complete game this season.

For the third time in the tournament, Wiley gave up the first runs. Tougaloo's first two batters got hits. A passed ball moved them into scoring position. A flyout and groundout brought in two runs. Burciaga settled in and held the Bulldogs scoreless for the next four innings.

Mendoza led off the third with a single. Ajari Camp courtesy ran for him and stole second. He advanced to third on Woodard's fly ball to right. Abel Rodriguez Jr. got hit by a pitch and stole second. Garza drove in Camp with a ground ball to second. A double by Perez scored Rodriguez. Ready gave Wiley the lead with a single to center. He increased the lead in the fifth inning with a two-RBI single to right.

Tougaloo (13-35) got a run back in the sixth. The Wildcats answered. Garza doubled with one out and scored on a sacrifice fly by Perez. The Bulldogs scored in the eighth. Ivan Del Villar increased the lead to three with his blast.

The winner of tomorrow's game will face No. 5 seed Rust College at 3:30 p.m. or 30-40 minutes after the game.

RUST 15, WILEY 5

The Wildcats fell to No. 5 seed Rust College 15-5. The game followed the GCAC Regular Season Award ceremony. It was outhit 19-7. Ryan Ready went 2-for-4 with a double, a run and a run batted in. Garza and Perez got a hit and scored a run. 

Keyon Guillory made his first career postseason start. He went 6 1/3 innings allowing 10 runs on 12 hits. However, only four of them were earned. He struck out four batters.
