Tornadoes Top Bearcats In Doubleheader

TALLADEGA, Ala. – The Rust College baseball program had a rough day in The Dega, nabbing just 11 hits and five runs as it lost its first two games of the year, 10-4 and 15-1.

Jalik Demar recorded a pair of RBIs on a double to left field in the first game, driving home William Stone Teague and Khalil Robinson. Demar also scored the final run in the top of the fourth on a Tremaine Callaway RBI base hit.

Robinson opened the scoring with a seeing eye single to bring around Quincy McGraw Jr.

Jalin Thomas had three hits over the two contests and the only two extra-base hits by the Blue and White on the afternoon, registering a double in each game while driving in Rust's only run of game two during a 2-for-2 showing.

After a seven-run first put the Bearcats in an early 7-3 hole, Benjamin Worthey and Aaron Strickland picked up the slack for the remainder of the day, allowing just three earned runs combined through the final six frames of the opener.

Stone Teague entered game two in mop-up duty during the start of the third inning and stopped the bleeding, going the final four innings while surrendering just one earned run and fanning six Tornadoes.

Next up is a date with a familiar face in Itta Bena, Mississippi as current Head Coach and Mississippi Valley State graduate John Bates take on former Head Coach and Associate Athletic Director Stanley Stubbs at MVSU for a Friday matinee doubleheader at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. at Magnolia Field.
