Baseball’s Late Rally Falls Short In Doubleheader Defeat

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – The Rust College baseball program were riding high off a five-game winning streak that included sweeps of both Arkansas Baptist and Tougaloo but a pair of losses at Champion Christian brought the Bearcats back down to Earth as they lost 9-0 and 9-7.

Game two nearly resulted in a miraculous comeback as Coach Bates' bunch cut a six-run deficit to two with a four-run seventh but came up just shy of tying the ballgame.

Game one was short on bright spots for the Bearcats as their only two hits came off the bats of Victor Clay and Jalik Demar while Jalin Thomas, Quincy McGraw Jr., and Jesse Burton III all reached via ball four.

Game two was a much better showing as Rust outhit Champion Christian (9-7) and added seven more free passes to the ledger.

McGraw Jr. was the only one with both a multi-hit and multi-RBI affair, going 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs, a walk plus a double.

Demar also went 2-for-3 but the difference was that he scored twice to go along with his run batted and base on balls.

The final batter with two base knocks was Thomas including a double while William Teague launched a solo bomb and crossed the plate twice after reaching safely thrice.

The Blue and White return to the friendly confines of Holly Springs on Saturday for doubleheader versus Southeastern Baptist at 12 and 3:30 p.m.
