Callaway’s 5 RBIs, Green’s Homer Lifts Rust Over Stillman

HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. – The Rust College baseball program used a 5-RBI game from Tremaine Callaway and a two-run shot from DeAndre Green to sweep the Stillman Tigers, 10-9 and 10-7 in front of the Bearcat faithful.

Tremaine Callaway went 3-for-4 on the day with a walk, run scored, stolen base, two-run double, and a three-RBI homer as he accounted for half of the ten runs scored in the opener.

DeAndre Green did not play in game one but exploded in the nightcap, going 2-for-3 while scoring twice and launching the game-winning two-run dinger in the bottom of the fourth to make it 9-7 Rust College.

Aaron Strickland also had a quality showing at the dish for Coach Bates as he smacked three hits, scored three times, collected two doubles, drove in a pair of RBIs, walked, and stole a base.

Jalik Demar, Victor Clay, and Jesse Burton III all pitched in two runs batted in as well while Khalil Robinson and Ashton Rubin contributed one.

Brent Jackson and Jackson Bryant claimed the two pitching victories, combining for six innings of four earned runs and two walks allowed on top of five strikeouts.

Brytan Sampson picked up the team's first save of the campaign with a quality inning out of the pen, surrendering a walk plus a hit but whiffing one Tiger to lock it down.

The second half of the home-and-home with Tougaloo College returns to Bearcat Field for a Friday doubleheader and a Saturday single contest as the Bearcats look to improve to 6-0 in the newly named Continental Conference.
