Baseball Ends Campaign With First Winning Season In 20 Years

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Rust College baseball program wrapped up the 2022 campaign on Friday afternoon versus Edward Waters, finishing above .500 at 17-15-1 (.530) for the first time since 2004.

The Bearcats, led by first-year Head Coach John Bates, won its first postseason contest in program history with a walk-off victory over Talladega that went into the early morning and made its second straight appearance in the Black College World Series.

Friday night's hero D'Anfrenee Bonner had another productive day, going 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored.

Tremaine Callaway and Jalin Thomas each recorded a pair of singles apiece with the former driving home Aaron Strickland, who knocked in the first of three runs in the second.

Khalil Robinson was on the delivering end of the lone extra-base hit by the Blue and White, crushing an RBI double into the left field corner to bring pinch-runner James Slaughter IV all the way around from first.

Allen Williams got the start, surrendered just a single earned run in the opening two innings with Jackson Bryant finishing the year out by contributing six frames of five-run (four earned) ball.
