Wonderful World Of Walk-Offs: Bearcats Win Third Straight In Final At-Bat

HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. – The Rust College baseball program have been masters of the heroics this season, taking the final two games of the Tougaloo series and the opener versus Wiley via walk-off winners with the latest being off the stick of Malik Berrien in the bottom of the 11th.

Berrien came up just a double shy of the cycle, blasting a two-run homer, crushing an RBI-triple on a gapper, collecting the game-winning RBI-single in extras, and floating a sacrifice fly for a total of five runs batted in, three hits, and two runs scored over seven at-bats.

Brytan Sampson was a shutdown reliever and it resulted in picking up his first win of the season, tossing three hitless, scoreless innings while averaging a strikeout per frame and allowing just one baserunner on a free pass.

Jalin Thomas was nearly as impressive as Berrien, also coming a double short of a cycle with the same three types of base knocks, collecting a pair of ribbies and scoring twice to go along with a walk.

Victor Clay reached safely four times, twice on singles and twice courtesy of ball fours on top of crossing the plate twice and driving home two.

Craig Randolph swiped two bases and knocked in two Bearcats, Jalik Demar was one of the three student-athletes to triple while Ja'Shaun Franks recorded the sixth and final multi-base hit with the team's lone two-bagger.

The Blue and White will resume its three-game series against its most likely top challenger in the GCAC, the Wiley Wildcats, on Saturday at 3 p.m. with Friday scheduled as an off-day due to weather concerns.
