Cardiac Cats Find A Way Again, Walk It Off In Game Two

HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. – The Rust College baseball program almost walked off Stillman in both contests, nearly erasing a four-run hole in the seventh before losing game one (7-6) then finishing the comeback in game two after trailing by one in the final frame and knocking off the Tigers, 5-4, on a Jalik Demar RBI-single.

Demar, the Fame two hero, played well throughout the day, going 3-for-7 (.429) with a pair of RBIs, a double, a steal, and a run scored.

Victor Clay had the team's highest batting average at .500, notching two singles plus a double while scoring twice and walking once.

Jalin Thomas also went 3-of-7, collecting a triple, an RBI, a run scored, and a walk as well as a trio of stolen bases.

Shemaar Stapleton tied Thomas for the club lead at three steals on top of two runs and a free pass while Stone Teague was one of two players to log multiple ribbies (2) as he smacked a single and a double to go along with scoring.

As for the pitchers, Olin Evans was masterful in four relief innings during game one, striking out five Tigers while giving up just one hit and one run, walking nobody.

Game two saw four Bearcats pitchers hold down the fort long enough for the rally to commence as Cohen Keats, Xavier Campbell, Frederick Perry Jr., and Brytan Sampson (Win) combined for seven innings of four-run ball (three earned) with six whiffs (three by Campbell) and ten baserunners allowed.

The Cats resume GCACtion on Thursday with a doubleheader beginning at noon versus Oakwood on Bearcat Field.
