JACKSON, Miss. – The Rust College baseball program had the unenviable task of facing one of the best HBCU baseball programs of all-time on their home turf and were able to notch ten hits plus a pair of runs against the Tigers of Jackson State.
Jalin Thomas did some yard work for the sixth time in 2023, crushing a 1-0 pitch over the left field wall inside Braddy Field to give the Bearcats their lone run of game one, cashing in a single as well.
Malik Berrien and Khalil Robinson both collected doubles with the latter going 2-for-3 in the opener while DeMarrium Warren reached safely during both of his game one plate appearances, lacing a single and walking on top of swiping second base.
William Baker and Christian Hill were the only two pitchers to escape the day with an unscathed ERA, hurling an inning apiece with each striking out one Blue Bengal as Hill had a perfect three-up, three-down showing.
The Cats return to NAIA competition on Wednesday at 1 p.m. when it faces Blue Mountain Christian on the road for a single game.
