Bearcats Dispatch Magicians With Ease

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Rust College baseball program put the injury incident behind them on Wednesday, controlling the entire ballgame versus LeMoyne-Owen on its way to a 14-1 win in 5 ½ innings.

Matthew Davis provided all the pitching Coach Bates needed, going for a one-run complete game of five frames, striking out a pair and allowing seven runners to reach (five hits, two walks).

More than half of the club's 13 hits went for extra bases (7-of-13, 53.8%) with a half-dozen doubles joined by a two-RBI round-tripper by Jalin Thomas.

The Cats also got back to their roots, stealing 11 bases as DeMarrium Warren, Jesse Burton III, and Jalik Demar all had multiple.

Warren wound up being the team's hit leader in a 3-for-4 (.750) effort in which he scored twice, walked once, and doubled.

Thomas was the top run producer with a trio of RBIs courtesy of the aforementioned homer as well as an RBI-groundout plus a walk.

Stone Teague and Khalil Robinson each drew a pair of free passes as the former smashed a two-bagger while the two student-athletes combined to cross the plate five times.

Demar, Ja'Shaun Franks, and Victor Clay all knocked home two baserunners apiece to go along with Shemaar Stapleton collecting a ribbie with his double in the top of the fourth.

The Blue and White enter the final series of the regular season amidst a three-way tie for first place between Rust, Wiley, and Dillard at 11-4. RC will try to break away from the trio in Huntsville this weekend at Oakwood while the Wildcats host Philander Smith and the Bleu Devils travel to Tougaloo.
