Cats Cruise Past Dogs, One Win Away From Championship Game

JACKSON, Miss. – The Rust College baseball program went straight to work in its GCAC Tournament opener, dropping ten runs on Tougaloo prior to the third inning as they advanced to the Winner's Bracket Semifinals to face #2 Dillard at noon on Saturday with a 14-4 drubbing of the Bulldogs in their "home" stadium.

Stone Teague, recently named to the All-GCAC Second Team, might have gotten slightly offended that he did not make the First Team . . . so he took it out on his unsuspecting opponent's pitching staff. Teague drove in nearly half of the team's runs (42.9%) with six RBIs spread out over a three-run homer, a two-RBI single, and a sacrifice fly to go along with scoring twice as well.

The GCAC MVP and Hitter of the Year Jalin Thomas did not disappoint either, racking up a team-high three hits including a pair of doubles.

Brytan Sampson opened the game with two perfect innings that resulted in a pair of strikeouts before Jackson Bryant came on for the final five frames for the victory.

Shemaar Stapleton crushed a two-run double, Victor Clay doubled, walked, swiped one base, and scored, Ja'Shaun Franks logged a two-bagger, a run scored and a steal during a 2-for-3 outing, while the duo of Malik Berrien plus DeMarrium Warren combined for four singles, three scores, two ribbies, a sac fly, and a trio of stolen bases.
