Dillard Stuns Rust To Win GCAC Championship

JACKSON, Miss. – The Rust College baseball program needed to win just one game while the Bleu Devils needed to post back-to-back victories to claim the tournament title, unfortunately for Bearcat Nation the latter prevailed as Dillard stormed out of the loser's bracket to win game one (5-2) and game two (8-3).

Half of the 12 members of the All-GCAC Tournament Team sported the Blue and White including catcher Jalin Thomas, first baseman Khalil Robinson, outfielders Malik Berrien and Ja'Shaun Franks, designated hitter Stone Teague, and relief pitcher Jackson Bryant.

Second Team All-Conference pitcher Xavier Campbell allowed just one earned run (three total) over seven innings in the clincher, striking out four and walking none.

Shemar Stapleton belted a two-run blast, walked once, stole a bag, and singled while Stone Teague had a double as part of his 3-for-4, one-RBI opener.

Demarrium Warren swiped three bases on the afternoon, notching a pair of singles and crossing the dish once.

Despite the devastating defeats, the men from Holly Springs still have at least two more games left to play in 2023 as they will take part in the Black College World Series for the third season in-a-row, starting May 10 inside Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery, Alabama.
