Top-Seeded Bearcats Advance To Black College World Series NAIA Championship Game

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Rust College baseball program patiently waited for the right pitches to hit against a depleted #3 Paine College pitching staff, drawing 13 walks on top of nine hits to pull away late and earn a trip to the Black College World Series' NAIA Championship Game against #4 Florida Memorial at 7:30 p.m. Friday night, 12-6.

The number three and four hitters in the lineup, Khalil Robinson, and Stone Teague were responsible for seven of the team's 13 walks (53.8%) as well as scoring half of its runs (6-for-12, 50%) with Teague swiping a bag.

Among the Cats that actually put the ball in play, Jalin Thomas recorded a two-RBI single plus an RBI double to go along with a pair of scores.

Shemaar Stapleton was finding all of the outfield gaps, notching five total bases over two hits including a two-run triple and a bases empty double, reaching a third time on a base on balls too.

The dynamic duo of starter Devin Tallington and reliever Olin Evans caged the Lions over 8.1 frames as Tallington struck out three while allowing zero runs in three-and-two-thirds and Evans picked up the victory in a 4.2-inning, one-run, two-hit effort in addition to a trio of punchouts.

Victor Clay was one of the many offensive sparkplugs, going 2-for-3 (.667) with a walk, two singles, a pair of ribbies plus a run scored.

Rust will now be out to avenge its Wednesday afternoon loss to the Lions as they look to reach their first-ever BCWS Championship Game.
