Bearcats Take Down Rival Magicians In Blowout

HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. – The Rust College baseball program began the day with a five-run first and capped off the rout with a five-run sixth as the men in Blue and White easily handled its rivals from Memphis, LeMoyne-Owen College, on Wednesday afternoon with a 15-4 triumph.

Rust Top Performers:

 

  • JaShaun Franks was incredible, racing around the bases for not one, but two triples as he went 3-of-4 (.750) with two RBIs, two runs scored, and a walk.

 

  • Jackson Bryant gained his first win of the campaign, going 5.1 innings on the hill without a walk, allowing just two earned runs (four total) and four hits in addition to a pair of whiffs.

 

  • Malik Berrien sported an almost identical stat line to Franks, also hitting .750 (3-for-4) with a pair of scores and ribbies but subtracting one triple for a double while not coaxing any free passes.

 

  • Matthew LeBlanc was the contest's RBI leader, bringing in three Bearcats via a fielders choice and the rare two-RBI sacrifice fly. He also stole a base and smacked a two-bagger.

 

  • Rashid Muhammad and Brent Jackson each touched home plate three times to front the club, combining for a trio of hits with Jackson accruing more hits (2) while Muhammad contributed both two RBIs plus two walks.

 

  • Calel Stephens closed out the win, hurling five scoreless outs and Kyron Baker was impactful as a pinch runner, stealing two bags to go along with scoring once.
