Baseball Starts First Winning Streak, Obliterates Oakwood 27-9

Rust Top Performers:

  • Artavis Latting became the first RC pitcher with multiple wins this season, tossing three punchouts and walking just one over the opening two-and-two-thirds frames.

  • The quartet of bullpen arms consisting of Tyler Keys (2.1), Tony Grandberry (1.0), Devin Tallington (0.2), and Ismeal Recio (0.1) gave up zero earned runs in the remaining four innings of relief, sitting down eight OU batters (four via Keys) and ceding only two hits.

  • Out of the 14 separate student-athletes that made at least one plate appearance, 13 reached safely in some capacity (92.9%) while eight different players recorded hits.

  • There were so many contributors, we will only list the primary stat leaders:

  • Rashid Muhammad scored a preposterous five times, and most days would have been the top base stealer as well at three.

  • Malik Berrien one-upped Muhammad on the bags, snatching four stolen bases on the afternoon while smacking a pair of doubles along with JaShaun Franks.

  • Jackson not only had a perfect batting average, he also racked up the most total bases, falling just a home run away from the cycle by collecting the single, double, and the ballgame's lone triple.

Next:

  • Thursday's game was originally scheduled for Friday, but with the nasty weather expected to hit most areas of the South, the solo contest was moved up a day. The series will resume on Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader.
