Two-Way Players Williams & Joshua Lead Softball To Sweep Of Voorhees

HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. – The Rust College softball program swept an opponent in a doubleheader for the first time since April 2015 and secured its most wins in a season since the 2012 squad had eight with victories number three and four during Saturday's twin-bill sweep of the Voorhees Tigers, 11-10 and 8-6.

  • Ayanna Williams had a Saturday to remember, winning her first career contest in the circle as the game two starter in addition to leading the offense with a .714 batting average, five hits over seven at-bats, five stolen bases, three RBIs and the team's lone double.

 

  • Leona Joshua was the game one victor on the mound with an astounding 16 of her 21 outs (76.2%) coming courtesy of strike threes. Not to be outdone in the batter's box, she tied for the batting average crown with her fellow pitcher by also going 5-of-7 (.714) on top of a Lady Bearcat-best five runs scored, three RBIs, a pair of long balls as well as an inflated slugging percentage of 1.571.

 

  • Haley Weatherspoon also went yard too, crossing home plate five times, hitting 3-for-7 (.429) with a trio of runs batted in, a steal and a walk.

 

  • Julie Gammage legged out a big-time RBI-triple while Kendall Morgan reached base safely four times over six plate appearances (.667) to conclude the notables.
