Lady Bearcats Open Season With Back-To-Back Blowouts

TALLADEGA, Ala. – The Rust College women's basketball program picked up where it left off last season, blasting both Wilberforce (77-50) and Florida Memorial (78-46) by an average of 29.5 points as the Lady Bearcats began the year in the DCA Classic last weekend.

 

Shay Johnson was the do-it-all guard that was earned her All-GCAC First Team and All-Defensive Team honors, shooting 40% from the floor (6-of-15) with nine assists, six rebounds and three steals to go along with an average of ten points per game in the two triumphs.

 

Fellow 2020-21 First Teamer and All-Defensive selection Jasmine Coleman paced the squad with 22 points, 18 of which coming against FMU, plus five steals and four boards.

 

Katie Blackmon collected her first double-double of 2021-22 versus the Lions, posting 14 points and ten boards while connecting on 6-of-8 from the floor (75%) and rejecting two shot attempts.

 

Faith Cattouse came off the bench to record her first double-digit scoring outing of the campaign with ten versus Florida Memorial.

 

Newcomer Zoe Alexander started both games for Coach Eric Jackson's squad and had an impressive collegiate debut opposite Wilberforce, going 7-for-12 (58.3%) while stuffing the stat sheet to the tune of 14 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists.

 

The Blue and White will host Oakwood for its home opener on Wednesday evening and will be receiving its 2020-21 GCAC Regular Season Championship rings in a special ceremony at halftime of the men's game on the newly refurbished WOODEN COURT.
