Lady Bearcats Pass Test With Flying Colors, Throttle #15 Lyon

HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. – The Rust College women's basketball program met its first ranked opponent of the season and promptly dispatched them with ease, coasting to a 54-42 victory over the #15 Lyon College Scots.

Coach Jackson's ladies overcame a poor shooting night, especially from distance (7.7%), with its trademark smothering defense, causing 25 errors to win the turnover battle by ten (25-15).

Shay Johnson was practically the entire offense for RC, exploding for a game-best 25 points on 8-of-16 (50%) shooting while adding eight free throws to make up nearly half of the Lady Bearcats' scoring (46.3%). The Byhalia, Mississippi native also contributed three rebounds, two assists and a block to go along with nearly scoring more points by herself than the entire starting lineup for the Scots (25 to 29).

Reigning GCAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week Katie Blackmon was feeling greedy in the post, corralling a season and game-high 14 boards as well as rejecting two shots and swiping a steal.

Zoe Alexander had another quality outing with nine points and three rebounds while India Green made for a strong defensive partner to Blackmon with eight boards and two steals of her own.

Next up for Rust College is a home date with the Arkansas Baptist Buffaloes on Friday with a projected 5 p.m. tipoff inside the W.A. McMillan Center.
