Lady Bearcats Earn Baker’s Dozen With 12th Straight Win

HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. – The Rust College women's basketball program will officially play for the GCAC Regular Season Championship in Little Rock on Saturday after obliterating the Fisk Lady Bulldogs, 86-51 in the McMillan Center.

 

RC took all suspense out of the result by halftime, taking a 36-11 lead into the locker rooms.

 

Katie Blackmon contributed game-bests in both points (13) and rebounds (9) with a 50% field-goal percentage on 6-of-12 shooting.

 

Shay Johnson had more assists by herself than the entire Fisk team, notching seven dimes to the Lady Bulldogs' six while posting a stat line of five rebounds, four points and a block elsewhere in the scorebook.

 

Jasmine Coleman had a healthy 11 points and seven boards with three triples on seven tries (42.9%).

 

Niya McGuire averaged a point per minute, pouring on 12 points in 12 minutes as well as nine boards and a 5-for-8 (62.5%) shooting night.

 

Faith Cattouse came off the pine to contribute ten points and four rebounds while Tyeisha Smith put together nine points and four boards of her own as a reserve.

 

The Blue and White will attempt to defend its conference crown Saturday at 2 p.m. inside Mims Gymnasium against the 20-5 (5-1 GCAC) Lady Panthers of PSC.
