Coach Jackson, Three Lady Bearcats Selected To All-Conference

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Rust College women's basketball program will be bringing tons of hardware back to Holly Springs as Head Coach Eric Jackson Jr. was named Coach of the Year, Shay Johnson and Katie Blackmon were selected to the All-GCAC First Team and Jasmine Coleman won Defensive Player of the Year while making the All-Defensive Team.

 

Jackson Jr., led the Blue and White to its second straight GCAC Regular Season Championship while leading the Lady Bearcats to a 25-3 overall and 7-1 GCAC record while maintaining a perfect 13-0 showing at home.

 

Rust had winning streaks of both 12 and 10 games separately and was a mainstay at the backend of the NAIA Top 25 for most of the campaign, peaking at #23 when the season concluded.

 

Johnson is a now three-time All-GCAC selection who finished among the top-ten in the nation for assists per game (5.5) while slotting top-five in the conference for scoring (11.0).

 

Blackmon averaged a double-double of 10.7 points and 10.4 boards a contest during conference competition to go along with ranking second in the league for rebounding overall (10.2) and blocks per game (1.1) all while averaging only 19 minutes of action a night.

 

Coleman was the leader of one of the most prolific defenses in the NAIA that allowed the lowest field-goal percentage in the country (30.4%), had the best rebounding margin nationwide (+14.2), and the second fewest points surrendered a game (49.4). RC was the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference's best in almost every statistical categories including points allowed per game, rebound margin, field-goal percentage allowed, assists allowed per game (7.2), net efficiency (.200) plus defensive efficiency (.731).
