Lady Bearcats Start Conference Play With Road Win At Tougaloo

JACKSON, Miss. - The Rust College women's basketball program returned from winter break and took care of business in the state capital, downing the Lady Bulldogs by 11, 77-66.

 

The Blue and White dominated off the bench, scoring 49 points from the reserves compared to 18 regarding Tougaloo, with the non-starters accounting for 63.6% of the Lady Bearcats scoring.

 

Double-double machine Katie Blackmon rang in the new year with a team-best 13 points as well as a game-high 13 rebounds, the club's lone block, was a perfect 5-for-5 from the charity stripe, and shot 4-of-6 overall.

 

Dekeriya Patterson tied with Blackmon for the points lead, Lyric Turner dropped 11 points on the scoreboard, and Faith Cattouse joined the double figure party with ten.

 

Taniah Bowers did not reach double-digits in the scoring department but was still effective, producing eight points, five boards, a contest-best two steals plus a pair of assists.

 

Rust will begin GCAC pod play on Friday evening at 5 p.m. in the Big Easy when they face the host Lady Bleu Devils of Dillard University on The Battlefield.
