Massive Second Quarter Propels Lady Bearcats Past Dillard

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Rust College women's basketball program flipped a one-point deficit after the first ten minutes into a 17-point halftime advantage as the Lady Bearcats avoided looking ahead to Philander Smith on Sunday with a 71-53 triumph over the Lady Bleu Devils.

A +13 (43-30) rebounding margin masked a turnover battle that broke even (20-20) but a key difference also came on long distance shot attempts as Rust shot 42.9% (9-of-21) while holding DU to just 10% (1-for-10) from deep.

Dekeriya Patterson (12), Ky'Lie Scott (11), and Niya McGuire (10) shared the scoring love around fairly equally with Patterson a perfect 4-for-4 from three-point land.

While the trio above was the point producers, Madison Riley (7), Katie Blackmon (6), and Karyn Ford (6) racked up the rebounds while Blackmon had one of the club's two blocks.

The two GCAC teams receiving votes in the latest NAIA Top 25 poll will tangle for the second time over the past week when they meet up Sunday night at 5 p.m. for the inside track at the top seed.
