Rust Wins Share Of Third Straight GCAC Championship At PSC

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Rust College women's basketball program has reached heights it has not seen in decades, claiming at least a share of its third GCAC Championship in-a-row and can win it outright with a Senior Night victory versus Tougaloo on Friday after dispatching the Philander Smith Lady Panthers, 67-61.

The home squad had the Lady Bearcats on the ropes as the Cats were down eight with ten minutes remaining, but a 22-8 fourth quarter rally secured a place in Rust College athletics lore as they earned their right to wear some more hardware and lift another banner to the rafters.

Niya McGuire was the scoring star of the show, leading all game participants with 16 points, making 7-of-13 (53.8%) shots with five rebounds, one of the two student-athletes with multiple steals (2), and a pair of assists plus just one turnover committed.

Ky'Lie Scott put a dozen points on the scoreboard, two normal buckets, two downtown connections, and two freebies, notching two boards as well as two assists.

Lyric Turner nabbed a Bearcat-best seven rebounds and six points while both Taniah Bowers plus Zoe Alexander fronted the club at a trio of helpers each.
