Lady Bearcats Clinch Regular Season Title Outright With Rout Of Tougaloo

HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. – The Rust College women's basketball program has retained their crown for the third year in-a-row, dismantling the Lady Bulldogs 70-41 to claim back-to-back-to-back Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Regular Season Championships.

The Cats will enter the tournament as the number one overall seed and take on the #8 SUNO Lady Knights at 5 p.m. on Thursday, February 23 inside Kroger Gymnasium at Tougaloo in the GCAC Quarterfinals.

The women honored its five seniors who have helped lay the foundation for one of the most dominant runs in program history both at the beginning and end of the game as Faith Cattouse, Lyric Turner, Madison Riley, Bionka Massie, and Katie Blackmon all got to make one last home start before participating in a formal ceremony immediately following the final horn.

RC put forth a classic defensive shutdown under Head Coach Eric Jackson Jr., muzzling the Dogs by holding them to just 41 points on just 16-of-54 (29.6%) while compiling an absurd +16 rebounding margin (47-31).

The unrivaled depth displayed by the Blue and White was on full display in front of the Bearcat faithful inside Kinzell Lawson Gymnasium as no single student-athlete scored in double-figures with Cattouse leading the way at nine points.

Riley was about as perfect as one could get over her 20 minutes on the floor, making all three of her field goal attempts, both of her free throws, did not turn the ball over once, and was the game's top rebounder with a dozen.

The senior trio of Riley, Turner, and Massie each put eight points on the board on top of Blackmon producing three two-point buckets plus seven boards.
