#1 Lady Bearcats Cruise Past #8 SUNO In GCAC Quarterfinals

JACKSON, Miss. – The Rust College women's basketball program took control early with a 16-6 advantage in the opening quarter and put themselves on cruise control to victory the rest of the way in a 64-47 comfortable win.

 

The defense did what they do best, forcing a whopping 31 turnovers from the Lady Knights and dominating off the bench with 37 points off the pine compared to SUNO's three.

 

Dekeriya Patterson was the lone Bearcat to score in double-figures, scoring a dozen on five buckets (5-for-11, 45.5%) and a pair of threes.

 

Katie Blackmon led the Lady Cats in rebounding per usual, grabbing seven rebounds with four points, two assists, a block, and a steal.

 

Five student-athletes logged multiple steals on the evening led by Taniah Bowers at four, followed by Shuntorri Rodgers (3), Faith Cattouse (2), Amelya Hatch (2), and Adjaratou Mbaye (2).

 

Cattouse fronted the contest with three dimes to go along with eight points by way of a 66.7% field goal percentage (4-of-6) while Lyric Turner put up eight points as well.

 

The Lady Bearcats will get Friday off to scout its next opponent, which will be the winner of the 5-4 matchup between Dillard and Wiley. The women from Holly Springs play for a berth in the GCAC Championship Game on Saturday at 5 p.m. inside Kroger Gymnasium.
