Women’s Basketball Picked To Four-Peat, McGuire Lands On GCAC 2nd Team

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Rust College women's basketball program has coined one of their mottos for the season as "#TheDynasty" and that's exactly how the rest of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference views the rising juggernaut as the Lady Cats were voted as the favorite to win it all for the fourth consecutive campaign, despite only getting one player named to All-Conference, Niya McGuire (2nd Team).

McGuire, a six-foot power forward from Monroe, Louisiana, was a well-balanced force for Head Coach Eric Jackson Jr. primarily off the bench, averaging 8.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and one assist per contest despite playing less than 16 minutes on average.

The senior connected on more than half of her shot attempts (89-of-172, 51.7%) and played in all but five games over the course of 2022-23, including seven starts.

The women from northern Mississippi will look to keep the line moving for another go-round as it looks to make its third NAIA National Tournament in four seasons with the league now capable of handing out multiple automatic qualifiers with the addition of UVI and the return of Talladega to the fold with both the regular season and GCAC Tournament champions getting to play for a natty.
