BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – The Rust College women's basketball program made the short 32-mile drive east to Tyler Gymnasium to take on the Blue Mountain Christian Toppers on Monday, withstanding a tough first quarter before pulling away in the second en route to an 88-50 blowout victory.

Rust Top Performers:

 

  • The leading Rust scorer was who else? The two-time reigning GCAC Newcomer of the Week, Diamond Sweats, went for a Bearcat-best 17 points via a 58.3% field-goal percentage (7-of-12) in addition to a pair of threes, a game-most six rebounds, two assists, and a tied for contest-high two steals.

 

  • Niya McGuire scored 14 points in just 11 minutes, producing at a lightning speed on 5-for-8 (62.5%) shooting and a quartet of boards.

 

  • Shuntorri Rodgers had the same number of field goals made and attempted as McGuire but logged one fewer point, however, she knocked down three triples and blocked an extra three shots.

 

  • Ahmari Young took most of her shots from long range, connecting on four of them plus two from inside the paint to end up with 14 as well.

 

  • Kennedi Green had an assist for every four or so minutes on the floor, leading all players with five during a 17-minute cameo on top of two steals.
