NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Rust College women's basketball program shook off a down night from their superstar and still came out of the Music City with a 14-point triumph as the Blue and White caged the Bulldogs in the GCAC opener, 72-58.

  • With three-time Newcomer of the Week Diamond Sweats held under wraps for the first time (although she did have a game-high three steals), somebody else had to step up to fill the scoring void . . . Niya McGuire answered the call. She took the torch and lit the defense up with a contest-best 21 points on 9-of-13 (69.2%) shooting on top of a Bearcat-best eight rebounds, a block and an assist.

 

  • Ahmari Young scored two more points than she had minutes on the court, popping off for 15 points in 13 minutes amid a perfect 5-for-5 night from downtown.

 

  • Zoe Alexander racked up assists by producing seven on the night while Kennedi Green pitched in four of her own along with seven points.

 

  • Musharapha Alhassan tied with McGuire for the rebounding crown at eight with six coming off the offensive glass and Nyekuar Quik was the only RC student-athlete with more than one block (2).

  • A week will have passed before the Lady Bearcats step back on the court for a regulation contest, setting up shop in The Dock against the Pilots of LSU Shreveport at 6 p.m. Thursday evening.
