Volleyball Splits Day One Of GCAC Round-Up

HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. – The Rust College volleyball program fell to league favorite Dillard to open the tournament before defeating newcomer Oakwood in a wild five-set roller coaster, improving to 2-1 in GCAC competition.

Three student-athletes went for double-doubles in the victory over the Lady Ambassadors; Jelisa Alexander (33 assists & 20 digs), Deja Campbell (13 kills & 10 digs), and Michelene Coleman (12 kills & 10 digs).

Coleman was the Lady Bearcats' most consistent scoring threat, smashing a team-high 19 kills (2.38 per set).

Jelisa Alexander was a beast in the heart of the Rust backline, topping all of Coach Armstrong's ladies in both assists (46, 5.75 p/s) and digs (24, 3.00 p/s).

Makyah Crawford was the best server despite only playing in three-of-eight sets on the afternoon, rolling to five service aces in the win over OU.

Jabria Simmons fronted RC in both kills (13) and blocks (4) in the nightcap as all four of her rejections were solo jobs.

Rust College wraps up the GCAC Round-Up hosted on its home floor with a tussle against Philander Smith at 1 p.m. inside Kinzell Lawson Arena.
